of M Water Resource Center Training Opportunity:
Conservation Applications of LiDAR Data
The University of Minnesota
Water Resources Center is presenting a series of technical
workshops on “Conservation Applications of LiDAR Data”. The
workshops are developed and taught by experts from the
University of Minnesota, MN Department of Natural Resources,
MN Board of Water and Soil Resources, and USDA Natural
Resources Conservation Service.
AUDIENCE
The workshops are designed for GIS and CAD users who address
natural resource issues. The target audience is employees
from Watershed Districts, Soil and Water Conservation
Districts, counties, cities, not-for-profit organizations,
private firms, and state and federal agencies.
PREREQUISITES
Participants must have intermediate GIS skills, and they
must attend the “Basics of Using LiDAR Data” before any
other modules. “Hydrologic Applications is required before
“Wetland Mapping”.
SCHEDULE
Sessions will be presented across the state starting in
March 2012. Visit the website for a current list. More
sessions will continue to be added.
TOPICS
Session modules include Basics of Using LiDAR Data, Terrain
Analysis, Hydrologic Applications, Engineering Applications,
Forestry and Ecological Applications, and Wetland Mapping.

FUNDING
The project is funded by a grant from the Environment and
Natural Resources Trust Fund.

Accessing Legacy Act Funds for Local Projects
FREE two-hour workshops in February, 2012
Funding new park and natural area projects is increasingly challenging given local finances. In this workshop you’ll receive “how to” guidance that your community can use to access funding under the Clean Water Land & Legacy Act. Learn how to apply for grants to support your natural area protection and restoration goals, parks projects, and water quality protection projects. Minnesotans want to see tangible outcomes that create a legacy; this workshop will improve the odds that these new funds find their way to your community, your region, and your partnerships.

This certificate will provide participants with foundational knowledge and tools for performing basic internal and collaborative performance measurement and evaluation activities in the context of planning and research in public organizations. Regardless of where organizations are along a continuum of evidence-based practice or evaluation maturity, students will leave equipped with tools and resource that will help them be catalysts in practical ways. The curriculum is structured specifically for individuals who would like to improve their existing skills, for staff for whom performance measurement and evaluation is a newly acquired duty, or for public agency leaders who are responsible for new evidence-based practice initiatives, evaluation, and measurement, and need an understanding of the processes and resources needed to make these efforts succeed. The curriculum offered in this certificate is intended to complement organizational strategic planning, emphasizing the use of information to enhance decision-making.
