Register Now!  Minnesota Public Drainage Manual (MPDM) Outreach to Drainage Authorities

The Minnesota Public Drainage Manual (MPDM) was updated and published in wiki format on the Board of Water and Soil Resources website in October 2016. In the 25 years between the original publication of the MPDM and its present version, a number of changes in law have occurred (Chapter 103E, and others), there is additional pertinent case law, and some policy perspectives are changing.

The Board of Water and Soil Resources will be holding three MPDM Broad User Outreach Workshops for drainage authorities, their staff, and advisors, as well as other interested parties. A separate statewide outreach workshop is being held for drainage engineers in April. These three outreach workshops are targeted for multiple audiences: county commissioners, auditors, and attorneys; watershed district managers, administrators, and secretaries; drainage inspectors; viewers; private drainage attorneys; involved landowners; and other interested parties. Some state staff will also be attending the workshops.

The workshops are planned for the following dates and locations:

  • May 22, 2017, at the      Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Moorhead, MN;
  • May 23, 2017, at the      Coyote Moon Event Center, St. Cloud,  MN;
  • May 25, 2017, at the New      Ulm Conference Center, New Ulm, MN.

The planned timeframe for the workshops will be from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM.   Registration is $25.00/person to cover food (lunch and breaks) and meeting room costs.  Depending on response after registration opens, we may need to limit registrations to fit the space available. (The sites can handle up to 150 participants per workshop.) Register here.

The agenda involves the lead writers for Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the MPDM and others knowledgeable about Minnesota drainage law. The agenda for each of these workshops will be identical.  Discussion will be encouraged.

Please note that the deadline for registrations is EOD May 12, 2017 (due to facility meal planning). Checks and POs (make sure that you list the name(s) of the individual(s) that the payment covers) need to be received at BWSR by the date for the chosen location.
