TOGETHER WE CAN ACCOMPLISH MORE

Dear Fellow Commissioners and AMC Delegates:

In less than a week we’ll come together at the AMC annual conference to listen, learn, and determine our direction for the next year.

I’m writing to ask for your vote in the election for AMC Second Vice President.

Over the course of the past several months, I traveled to every Minnesota county twice and have had the privilege of talking with many of you about your hopes for the direction of our communities, along with your worries about what might get in the way.

I found that it didn’t matter whether you’re from Hennepin or Houston, Stearns or Steele, Ramsey or Renville… as county commissioners, we all seem to have the same concerns.

Two issues bubbled to the top: county program aid, and unfunded mandates. We know the State is great at passing new laws and relying on counties to administer them.  But rarely do they follow through with funding.

This battle is not going to be glamorous by any stretch. It’s going to be ‘roll up your sleeves’ and ‘dirt under your nails’ difficult. But know that I’m no stranger to hard work. It’s who I am and what I do every day. I wear a suit in the board room and a mechanics uniform everywhere else. I learned the importance of hard work from my family and put it to good use every day at my service station.

Since joining the Anoka County Board in 2013, I’ve been quick to jump in and get involved with key issues and initiatives. I’m honored to chair the county’s Transportation Committee and Housing and Redevelopment Authority, and I’m vice chair of the Regional Railroad Authority, along with the Information Technology, Public Safety, and Parks and Community Services committees. I also serve on the Intergovernmental and Community Relations; Finance and Capital Improvements; and Recycling and Resources Solutions committees as well as the Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board; Community Corrections Advisory Board; Joint Law Enforcement Council; the Counties Transit Improvement Board, and the Anoka County Canvassing Board.

I’m also currently involved with, or have recently served our local Crime Prevention Association, Mortgage Assistance Foundation, Technical College Automotive Advisory Board, Unocal 76 Dealer Council (Chair), Rotary Club, Coon Rapids HRA (Vice-Chair), Coon Rapids EDA (Vice-President), Joint Law Enforcement Council, Northstar Corridor Development Authority, Epiphany Parish Council (Treasurer & Trustee), and Homelessness Elimination Coalition.

I’m not listing these to toot my own horn but rather to demonstrate that I’m all in. When you support me for AMC Second Vice President, you’ll have a player on your team who will go every inning on behalf of Minnesota’s counties. Together, with hard work, we can accomplish anything!  Let’s hit it out of the park!

Respectfully,
Scott_Schultesignature
