Each year since 1977, the Association of Minnesota Counties has recognized valuable innovations and improvements in county government.

Criteria

Projects selected for an award must conform to at least one of the following statements:

  • The achievement may be utilized by other counties and/or provide lessons for other counties to draw from.

  • The achievement is highly innovative in nature.

  • The project resulted in tangible benefits for the county and/or community (such as reduced costs, higher efficiencies, improved systems or services).

  • The achievement required substantial initiative, leadership and commitment.

Examples

  • Reorganization of county departments or agencies to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness in the county organization.
    Improved administration of an existing program (such as new procedures, systems or techniques).

  • Development and implementation of an innovative new program.
    Successful cooperative efforts with other counties, cities, organizations, or other levels of government; or

  • Improved communication and/or participation between the county and the public.

  • Significant improvement in the working relationship between the county board and other elected county officials.
