Mission, Goals, and Objectives

Mission: The Health Subcommittee exists to provide policy direction to the Health and Human Services Policy Committee on health issues affecting counties.

2005 Goals:

• Provide input to development of AMC legislative platform.

• Provide feedback to guide AMC staff’s legislative advocacy efforts on issues identified in the platform (in coordination with HHS Policy Committee and Legislative Steering Committee).

• Promote shared understanding between state and local government on issues of mutual concern and advocate for policy development that positively affects counties.

The Subcommittee addresses issues with immediate impact in the legislative session, as well as those with longer-range implications.  Current examples include:

• Methamphetamine Use- short term

• Health care costs and quality – long-term

• County based purchasing – short and long term

• Environmental health (food, beverage, lodging and manufactured home parks inspection)– long term

The Subcommittee meets at the call of the Chair.
